Organic Poultry in Turkey

- In Turkey, since 1985-1986, the organic farming has been performed without considering any of the legislations and at the beginning it has been implemented for 8 types of crops. Today, it has reached to totally 385 types of raw and processed products. In parallel with these developments, in recent years, the organic animal production has started to develop and meat, milk, yoghurt, cheese and egg have started to take place as animal products in the markets. According to the data of 2010 taken from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, there are 15 enterprises performing organic poultry farming in Turkey and production of organic egg and chicken has co-occurred in the enterprises in Samsun and Bolu. Totally 68.219 chickens are available in the current enterprises and the total amount for organic egg produced is 17.889.808. 550 tons of organic chicken have been obtained from 273.910 broilers which have been produced organically in these two enterprises.
