- Milk Production and Reproduction of imported Simmental Cattle at Kazova State Farm.

A total of 200 imported and 432 Kazova born animals constituted the animal material of the study. The imported heifers were 3 to 6 months pregnant at the time of importation.

Milk production traits of imported animals, growth characterics of the offspring and livebility of the whole material were investiated.

The mean first calving age of imported heifers was 28.3 months. On the other hand, it was 26.8 months for the Kazova born heifers. The mean service periods of the cows for the second and third pregnancies were 129.4 and 91.5 days, respectively. Number of inseminations per conception was found to be 2.0 for the second and 1.7 for the third conceptions. The differences for these two reproductive traits were statistically significant (P<0.05).

Milk productions of the cows were corrected to 305 days and computed as 3181 kg for imported and 2354 kg for Kazova born animals.

The results indicated that simmentals were well adapted to the region and they demonstrated satisfactory performances for milk production and reproduction. The breed has been well accepted by the farmers in the area. it may bi proposed that resarch trials should be set up with the breeds in Eastern and South-East Anatolian regions. Keywords :
