- A total of 200 imported and 432 Kazova born animals constituted the animal material. The imported heifers were 3 to 6 months pregnant at the tlme of importation.

The average birthweights of male and females wese 39.4 and 36.6 kg. respecttvely. Male calves had larger body measurements than the females at all the periods. The average body welghts were 370 kg for the bulls and 319 kg for the heifers at 12 months of age.

Viaibilities of the animals were studied in two stages of life. The first stage is 0 - 6 months pertod and the second stage is above 6 months of age. Calf mortalities were 6.4, 1.2 and 2.4 % in the years of 1990, 91 and 92, respectively.

The results indicated that Simrnentals were well adapted to the region and they demonstrated satlsfectory performances. The breed has been well accepted by the farmers in the area. t may be proposed that resarch trials should be set up with the breeds in Eastern and South- East Anatolian regions. Keywords :
