Some Productive Characteristics of South Anatolian Red (G.A.K.) Cattle at Ceylanpınar State Farm

1 A. Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, Zootekni Anabilim Dalı - The G.A.K. herd at Ceylanpınar State Farm constituted the material of the study. The data was derived from the farm records covering the period from 1978 to 1992. A total of 374 lactation and 420 birth weight records were used.

The average values were age of fırst insemination 25.6 months, age of fırst calving 34.9 months, gestation length 282.7 days, service period 99.1 days, calving interval 381.6 days and dry period 176.1 days.

No effects of sex and calving number were detected on the length of gestation. The mean values of actual and age corrected milk yields were 1772.9 and 2525.9 kg., respectively. The average length of lactation was 215 days. Sex of calf and age of dam were found to be significant on birth weight. The mortality rate of the calves in the fırst three months was 6.9 %. Keywords :
