- This study has been carried out to produce information on the productive adaptability of Brown Karacabey cattle to Central Anatolia and to obtain age correction factors and an estimate of repeatability for milk yield. Lifetime records of 33 Brown Karacabey cows obtained at the Lalahan Animal Breeding Research Institute (LZAE) near Ankara, during the years 1957-63 have been used for the analyses. Only the first 305 day milk records have been considered for lactations lasting longer than 305 days.

Age correction factors for the records produced at three four, five , six and eight years of ages, to be used for conversion to seven year old basis, were found to be 1.41, 1.25, 1.07, 1.04 and 1.02 respectively. The average ME milk production during the period 1957-63 was 2789 ± 46 kg. Comparing this figure with those obtained for cows at Karacabey Farm in the Marmara Region and considering the average ME milk production at the LZAE in different years, it was concluded that Brown Karacabey cows showed good productive adaptability to the conditions of Central Anatolia.

Using date corrected for age of cow and year of milking a repeatability of 0.52 ± 0.09 has been estimated for milk yield in the Institute herd. The practical use of this estimate in breeding operations, both in this herd and in other Brown Karacabey herds, is discussed. Keywords :
