Catlee artificial Insemination in Turkey and the developmental possibilities
I. İn the Nort Region of Turkey

Afif SEVİNÇ

- In eighteen provinces of Northern Turkey there are 22 artificial Insemination Stations. All of them except one, use bulls only of one breed. Eleven stations have Montafon; nine stations have Jersey one Station has Holstein and one keeps Holstein and Montafon bulls. Through these stations 23.339 and 24.391 cows were inseminated in 1961 and 1962 respectively. The average birth rate obtained for all stations in 1961 was 73.4 %.

The number of A.I. stations in this region can be reduced to half without any reduction in number of the inseminated cows. On the other hand, practice and knowledge of technicians employed have to be increased and the extent of the operative area for a technician should be fixed so that to enable him touring it twice a day.

Bull management, semen collection, evaluation and shipment technics should be carried out according to the latest developments achieved in these fileds. For this reason, effective supervision and control by A.I. specialists are necessary.

Although the results obtained differ among the stations, there have been reasonable increases in every succeeding year, in number of cows inseminated almost in all stations.

Finally the artificial insemination of this region has to be reorganized as a whole in order to face both the immidiet and future demands. Keywords :
