- This study was carried out to determine the possibility of using diatomit, which is a kind of moss fossils, or a mixture between diatomit and wood shavings as litter in broiler production. Wood shovings were used as litter in control groups. There are two replicates in the study.

Each litter groop consisted of 180 chicks which were grown in the 7 weeks period. Body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion rate, Mortality, production indices, litter moisture, litter pH and aerobic total bacteria counts were determined in the investigation.

İt is concluded that. The usage of diatomit as litter caused negative effects on body weight, feed conversion rate and mortality. However, the differences between diatomit + wood shavings mixture and wood shavings were not statistically significant in any characteristics. Keywords :
