Effects of Lying Time on Lameness of Dairy Cattle and Factors Effecting Lying Time

- Lameness is one of the most important welfare, health, and productivity problems in modern dairy farming and causes significant economic losses. Lameness has a multifactorial etiology. Some factors such as cow comfort, daily lying and standing time, and changes in the hoof around calving has major importance as the cause of lameness. Providing a dry, comfortable resting area for dairy cattle and avoiding herd management activities that reduce resting time is essential to reduce incidence of lameness in enterprices.
