- This experiment has been carried out to study the efect of twice yearly shearing on the quantity and quality of mohair and kid production from six month of age to 3.5 years old. 70 head of does have been used for this experiment in Yerköy Farm. The animals were randomly divided in to two equal group. A) Experimental group, b) Control group. Experimental goats were shorn twice yearly, first shearing taking place in august and second in march. Control goats were shorn one in a year, only in march. The mohair samples have been taken form hip region in each shearing.

Experiment goats produced more greasy fleece weight in the all years; 66 gr, (1 year old) 387 gr, (2 years old), 490 gr (3 years old) and the average was higher 19.1 % than control group and also clean fleece weight was more 74 gr, 220 gr, 196 gr respectively and had longer staple (sum of the august and march measeurement). Summer fleeces had more grease and clean weight and longer staple than winter fleeces out of the one year old. Summer fleeces also had more ondulation, yield and elasticity in young goats and more fiber diameter and elasticity when they were adult. There were no significant effect of twice shearing on the breaking strength of mohair but there was a significant effect on the yield and amount of kempy fiber, (see table 1, 2, 4, 6). Experimental group produce less yield and more kempy fiber in all ages. Twice shearing did not effect on the live weight and also pregnancy, fertility, kid production (see table 3 – 7). Keywords :
