- Chickens have the ability to maintain a rather uniform temperature of their internal organs since they are warm -blooded (homeothermic) animals. However the mechanism is efficient only when the ambient temperature is within certain limits.

The heat produced by the body has to be balanced by the heat iost from the body to maintain a constant body temperature.

Heat is lost from the body by radiation, conduction, vaporization of water, faecal excretion and production of eggs.

The factors affecting normal body temarature are sex, breed, environmental temperature, photoperiod, activity and reproductive status. Keywords :
