Commercial crossing of Akkaraman ewes with Hampshire Down and German Blackhead mutton rams for meat production

- İn this study, the crosses of HD (Hampshire Down) x WK (White Karaman) and GBH (German Black Headed Mutton) x WK were compared for commercial breeding.

The material of the study was consisted of 66 Kangal type ewe, 1 HD and 1 GBH ram in mating period, 24 HD x WK Fı and 21 GBH x WK Fı lambs during suckling period.

During suckling period lambs were fed in pasture and consantrated feed Covaryans analize were used on data.

Gestation, parturation and twins rate and lamb for per gestation for White Karaman breed were 62.12 %, 54.55 %, 27.78 % and 1.25 % respectively .

Survival ability for both groups were 100 % at 75 days of age. The results suggested that there is not obvious differences between two cross breed as it was expected. More resarches are needed on this subject to decide the sire breed for meat production. Keywords :
