1 Ankara Üniversitesi, Veteriner Fakültesi, Zootekni Anabilim Dalı, ANKARA - In order to rapid genetic improvement in dairy cattle, generation interval should be as short as possible. Because of the long generation interval, using breeding methods have lower rate of genetic improvement. Through genomic evaluation, generation interval could be shorter. Beceause of accomplishment for breeding studies, prediction for genetic structure must be successful. In order to identify genetic variation in animal population, DNA studies gives more reliable results. Many methods are used for the determine DNA polymorphism. These methods such as; SNPs, microsatellites, RFLP and RAPD are included. SNPs method has more potential than the other methods for the genetic improvement. In this paper, genomic evaluation in dairy cattle and potantialities of using SNPs method were reviewed. Keywords : Genomic Evaluation, Improvement, SNPs, Dairy Cattle
