- This study was carrried out to determine the effects of different amount of egg yolk added to skimmed milk extender of Angora buck semen on spermatologic parameters after frozen-thawed semen. Ejaculate samples were obtained from three mature Angora bucks were used in this study. Ejaculates were collected using an artificial vagina twice a week, for three weeks running, during the breeding season. After pooling, each pooled ejaculate was split into five equal aliquots and diluted with based extender containing egg yolk (5, 10,15, 20 %) or no egg yolk (control). Diluted samples were aspirated into 0.25 ml straws, equilibrated at 5°C. Following equilibration, the straws were frozen in liquid nitrogen vapour and stored at -196°C until evaluation. Highest motility after post-thaw was obtained from skimmed milk extender containing 10 % egg yolk as 68.5±4.53 % and lowest motility was obtained from skimmed milk extender containing 0 % egg yolk as 30.0±3.56 %. At abnormal spermatozoa rates, while there was not statistically significant difference between the groups including 5, 10 % egg yolk extenders (24.5±3.70, 22.6±4.01 %, respectively), in control group (0 % egg yolk) fairly higher rate (44.6±4.41 %) were obtained than in other groups and differences between groups containing egg yolk and no egg yolk were important (P<0.05). Live spermatoza with the highest rate was obtained at group with 10 % egg yolk. In conlusion, it was seen that skimmed milk extender containing 10 % egg yolk of Angora buck semen provided the significant contributions on spermatological parameters after thawing.
