1 Doğu Anadolu Tarımsal Araştırma Enstitüsü Aziziye/Erzurum - Eastern Anatolian Red is a native cattle breed of Northeast Anatolia Region. Since its generation is at under extinction risk, it has protected by in-situ and ex-situ rearing methods. Some morphological and physiological breed characters showed some changes according to conservation methods and rearing periods. The coat color of this race had partially differed between rearing methods, however, general differences were observed between rearing periods. In this study, while the differences between birth weight in point of sex protection methods were statistically in signifcant and chest girth measurements were signifcant (P˂0.05). The differences in weight and chest girth between in-situ and ex-situ flocks during the weaning period were found to be statistically signifcant in both sexes (P<0.01). Chest girth in adult showed statistically signifcant differences in the protection methods in bothsexes (P˂0.01). Although the number of EARC has decreased in the region, 93.3% of the farmers accept this race as a national value. 90% of the rearers reported that they were not aware of the support given to the breed. Although, it cannot compete with exotic breed of cattle in terms of yield, protection of this race was demanded by farmers at a rate of 93.3%.
