- The purpose of this study was to determine the lactation curve of South Anatolian Red cattle. Data were collected from the dairy cattle breeding unit at Ceylanpınar State Farm. Wood (Gamma) model was used to form lactation curve. Non-linear regression method was used for the estimation of parameters in lactation model. The mean values of determination coefficient (R2) of lactation groups were estimated between 64.5-69.7 %. The values of mean squared errors (MSE) were varied between 1.082 and 2.232. The differences among the lactation groups were found statistically significant (p<0.001).

Lactation milk yields were calculated using three different methods (the method used in the farm, Holland and Wood models). Friedman repeated ANOVA was used to determine the differences among the methods. The differences among the methods were non-significant except 3rd lactation group. In the last stage of the study Wood Model was used for five groups of lactation in order to form lactation curves. Keywords : Cattle, South Anatolian Red, Lactation model, Lactation curve
