The Studies on Some Characteristics of Arap, Haflinger and Arap x Haflinger Fı Horses at Karacabey State Farm

- This Study is a part of a research project concerned with the production perfonnance of Arap, Haflinger and Arap x Haflinger Fı horses at Karacabey state farm. In this second part, growth and body weights of the horses were considered. Growth rates and body measurements of 322 foais obtained in the years 1988 - 1989 were used. Arap colts weighted 46.35 kg at birth, 276.74 kg at 12 th month and 372.27 kg at 24 th month while filies weighted 45.65 kg at birth. 264.67 kg at 12 th month, 356.67 kg at 24 th month and 402.0 kg at 36 th month. These values were 39.05, 244.80 and 381.71 kg for coits and 38.50, 249.79, 345.79 and 358.85 kg for filies in Haflinger breed respectively. Arap x Haflinger Fı coits weighted 40.07 kg at birth and 248.0 kg at 12 th month while filies weihted 40.50 kg at birth. 257.88 kg at 12 th month, 350.38 kg at 24 month and 371.25 kg at 36 month. The effects of age of dam, sex and genotypes on the growth characteristics and body measurements were investigated. The effect of age of dam on 3 rd month weight and cannon bone circumference was significant: the effects of sex on the 3 rd month weight. 18 th month withers height and 6 th month cannon bone circumference, heart girth and withers height were significant at all ages.
