This bereed is very important in the Turkish sheep raising, because of has better milk, wool mutton productions than the other nativ breeds. Some part of Kıvırcıks wool can be used worsted manufacturing.

This study has been made to determine some properties of Kıvırcıks wool and tos how the relationship as to the staple length, fineness, wool grease elasticity and strength, which is raised in Thrace region.

Wool samples have been taken from flully growt Kıvırcık ewes of various ages owned by the people in the provinces of Tekirdağ (Hayrobolu), Kırklareli (Babaeski), Edirne, İstanbul (Silivri). 100 head of sheep have been sampled in each provinces. And three samples for one animal, shoulder, side and thigh.

In order to determine fiber diameter, 1200 samples have been used and we measured 400 fibers for each sample. We tested 100 fibers for one sheep to determine elasticity and strenght. Keywords :
