- Reproductive performance, livability and inbreeding degrees of Purebred Turkish Arabian horses maintained at Karacabey, Anadolu and Sultansuyu State Farms and Mahmudiye Stud Farm were investigated in this study. The effects of farm, age and sex on gestation period were examined by the method of least squares. Foals` livability were examined by the method of Khi-Kare and inbreeding coefficients were also calculated. Oestrus rates of mares in Anadolu, Karacabey and Sultansuyu State Farms were 98.12, 99.64, 98.15 % respectively. Gestation rates of mares for Anadolu, Karacabey, Sultansuyu State Farms and Mahmudiye Stud Farm were 90.96, 91.01, 83.70 and 93.96 % respectively. Birth rates of mares for the same farm operations were 82.08, 84.62, 73.89 % respectively. Gestation period in mares were also found to be 336.65, 337.44, 333.63 and 336.78 days respectively for these farms. The effects of farm, age and sex on gestation period were statistically significant (P<0.05). Livability of foals in Anadolu, Karacabey and Sultansuyu State Farms were 97.51, 99.16 and 94.70 % at three months of age; 96.67, 98.32 and 93.69 % at six months of age; 96.05, 98.04 and 92.42 % at nine months of age; 95.84, 98.04 and 92.42 % at twelve months of age respectively. Differences between farms were significant (P<0.001) for livability. The effects of sex on livability were not significant for Anadolu and Karacabey State Farms. However livability of fillies were significantly (P<0.01) higher in Sultansuyu State Farm. Average inbreeding coefficient was 0.0163. High reproductive performance and livability showed that husbandry, nutrition and reproductive performance were sufficient. nbreeding coefficients were low and similar to the previous years. This is showed that stallion and mare interchange between farms and importation of stallions and mares from different countries were effective in this phenomenon.
