- This study was aimed to investigate the technical performance parameters, proportion of cost components in the total cost of production, efficiency of optimum source management, and determining measures to be taken for improvement of profitability and productivity. The data used in the study obtained from an interview survey from randomly selected 40 laying hen enterprises in the province in years 2002-2003. The average egg production period, mortality rate and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) were calculated as 480 days; % 12.5 and 2.37 respectively. The proportions of cost of pullet, feed, labour, vets&meds, depreciation-repair-maintenance and miscellaneous expenses in the total cost accounted for 16.94; 69.35; 3.07; 0.72; 2.42 and 7.50 respectively. The financial rantability ratio and rantability factor of all enterprises calculated as 7.23 and 7.68 respectively. The estimated regression model results showed a decreasing return to scale in an all scales and aggregate of all farms. The marginal product values calculated for all enterprises were – 0.40 TL for pullet, 1.65 TL for feed, – 2.73 TL for labour, 7.59 TL for veterinary-medicine, and 0.91 TL for the other costs. Average productivity values of enterprises were calculated to be 97.43; 98.75 and 98.23 in small, medium and large scale enterprises respectively. As a result, present marketing conditions don`t allow increasing the enterprise scales. Keywords : Layer Hen, Cost, Profitability, Productivity, Cobb-Douglas
