Carcass Characteristics Karakul, Morkaraman and Morkaraman x Karakul Fı male lambs

1 Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, Zootekni Anabilim Dalı - VAN - This study was carried out to investigate the carcass characteristics of Karakul, Morkaraman and Morkaraman x Karakul (Fı) male lambs. Six lambs were used from each genotypes. The lambs were fed, after suckling period three month, 70 days. Approximately after at the feeding, Karakul lambs were slaughtered at 30 kg of live weight,wile the other groups were slaughtered at 40 kg. Lambs were fed with sanfoin hay and concentrates ad libitum. For statistics analysis, analysis of covarians was used.

For Karakul, Morkaraman and Morkaraman x Karakul (Fı) lambs, dressing percentages were found to be 48.51, 49.92 and 48.84 %; the leg weights in the carcass 5.55, 5.85 and 5.93 kg; shoulder weigths 3.14, 3.51 and 3.07 kg ; tail fat weigth 1.57, 1.57 and 1.30 kg; the ratios of leg weights in the carcass 31.44, 32.14 and 33.37 %; shoulder weigths 17.79, 19.28 and 17.27 %; tail fat weigth 8.91, 8.60 and 7.29 %, for the dressing percentages, the leg weights in the carcass, the ratios of leg weights in the carcass and tail fat weigth was found significant differences among groups (P<0.05). The eye muscle areas were 15.93, 18.50 and 17.36 cm2 ; ratios of lean meat weights in the leg cut were 67.56, 69.74 and 67.95 %, fat weights 8.64, 7.52 and 8.09 %, bone weights 24.14, 23.07 and 24.11 %; lean meat weights in the shoulder cut 67.19, 67,23 and 68.07 %, fat weights 7.00, 6.55 and 7.17 %, bone weights 25.79, 26.49 and 24.75 %; for this character, there was significant differences among groups (P<0.05); ratios of lean meat weights in the carcass were 56.64, 57.83 and 57.71 %, fat weights 18.83, 19.28 and 18.34 %, bone weights 22.97, 23.09 and 23.55 % respectively in the above order..
