1 TAEK, Lalahan Hayvan Sağlığı Nükleer Araşt. Enstitüsü, 06852-Lalahan / ANKARA - The effects of protein and non-protein nitrogen sources (sunflower seed meal and urea) upon microbial protein synthesis in the rumen of Angora goats were investigated. Three Angora goats of 40-45 kg live weight and approximately 5 year-old fitted with ruminal and abomasal (T -type) cannulas were housed in an individual pens. The animals were randomaly allocated to the treatments according to 3 x 3 latin square desing and fed with control diet consisted of barley and grass hay (A) (15.45 MJ ME/d. head, 13.50 g RDN/d. head), control diet supplemented with urea (B) (15.45 MJ ME/d. head, 20.4 g RDN/d. head) and sunflower seed cake (15.45 MJ ME/d. head, 20.4 g RDN/d. head) (C). Diets were given by authomatic feeders. At each period 200 μCi / d Na2 35S04 was infused with infusion pump. 35S labelled cysteine and methionine were isolated from collected abomasal samples and activity of 35S labelled amino acids were counted. Specific activity of total non-ammonia nitrogen (NAN) was analysed in total abomasal samples. Daily flow rate of OM and NAN from rumen to abomasum were determined by using solide (Cr2 O3) and liquid phase flow markers (PEG).

The estimated efficiency of microbial protein synthesis in the rumen for diets A, B and C were 23, 33 and 30 g MN (mikrobial azot)/kg ADOM (Apparently Digestible Organic Matter) respectively. İn conclusion, supplementation of control diet with sunflower seed cake and urea /NPN) were positively affected the microbial protein synthesis in the rumen of Angora goats. The effects of protein and non-protein nitrogen sources on microbial protein synthesis were similar. Keywords :
