The Use of Safflower in Ruminant Nutrition

- Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is an oil seed plant that can grow in barren and arid lands, its unsaturated fatty acids ratio in total fatty acids are around %90-93. Safflower is an important alternative feed resource that can be used as both roughage and concentrated feed because of its seeds and oil. Besides, the Safflower have also the importance due to its rich unsaturated fatty acid content that is used in the synthesising of Conjugated Linoleic Acid. The purpose of this review is to explore the effect of using plant, silage, oil, seed and meal of the Safflower in ruminant nutrition on performance and health.
