- The object of this study was to determine some characteristics of Basic and Subordinate (secondary) mohair classes according to the Regulation Governing the Control of Mohair Exports. Mohair samples of each subclasses (except burnt-sugar colored and burcovered moh.,) have been taken from different storehouses which belong to mohair exporters in Istanbul, in two years (1965- 1964).

The percentage of clean fiber content determined by ASTM.; standart condition: a moisture content of 12 percent, alcohol extractable matter content of 1.5 percent and an ash content of 0.5 percent. The mean values given for yield in all subclasses on the table no. V.

The percentage of various fiber types determined by benzene medhod. The mean values given on the table no. III. Fiber diameter of all subclasses determined bey wedge scale method and the mean values given on the table I and also distrubution of fiber finennens on the table II.

The staple length of all standart classes of mohair was measured by ruler. The mean values for staple length and types of locks given on the table no. IV.

The breaking strength and fiber elasticity of all subclasses determined bay Schopper and the mean values given on the table no. VI.

The results indicate that there are many differences on the mohair properties between years. It is necessary to establishe a new scientific classification of mohair and the limits of important mohair characteristics should be make clear in all new standart classes. Keywords :
