1 A.Ü. Veteriner Fakültesi Zootekni Bölümü, Ankara - The levels of plasma glucose, cholesterol and protein were determined in different avian species. The levels of plasma glucose were 316.9, 380.4 and 330.5; plasma cholesterol were 121.3, 144.3 and 86.0; plasma protein were 4.87, 3.52 and 3.26, in chickens (female), quails (female) and their hybrids, respectively.

Sex differences were studied only in quails. The levels of plasma glucose, cholesterol and protein were 380.4, 144.3, 3.5 respectively, in females and 281.7, 146.2, 2.5 in males.

The effects of species and strains within the same species on the levels of glucose, and protein were statistically significant (P<0.01) while the cholesterol levels were not affected by species or strains.

It was also found that the cholesterol levels were not affected by sex but the levels of glucose and protein were effected by sex (P<0.01). It was also found that there were statistically significant correlations among these plasma components studied. Keywords :
