Structural Characteristics of Sheep – Goat Breeding Farm in Mersin

- This study aims to determine the structural characteristics of firm that breeding sheep and/or goat in Mersin region. In Turkey raising sheep and goats are usually done with native breeds or with crossbreds in an extensive or semi-extensive conditions. There is a similar situation in Mersin as well. High percentage of Mersin population is dealing with sheep and goats breeding and with greenhouse cultivation. The breeding sheep and goats in this region include generally pure and crossbred Akkaraman, Morkaraman, Chios, Ivesi, Hamdani, Herik and Merinos sheep, and Kıl, Halep, Kilis and Saanen goats. These animals are housed mainly in central villages in winter and are usually taken to flatlands as the weather warms up. In Mersin region`s farm and in this study include at leats 100 sheep and/or goats and these animals are usually breed in an pasture based extensive conditions.
