The feed-lot performance of Brown Swiss and their crosses with Native Gray
Purebred Brown Swiss animals were used as controls. All the animals were contamporaries. Growth measures were found the same for all breeding groups. Average birth weight was 41 kg. in males and 38 kg in females, weaning wight was 134.7 kg for all groups.
Crosbred calves showed higher viability than purebreds. Mortality in 6 months was 5.6 % in crosses and 10.5 % in purebreds.
G2 cows were more fertilite than BS cows. Conception rate was 92.1 % and 83.4 %.
No difference was found for milk yield, the average production was 2393 kg for all groups.
