- The aim of research was to evaluate semen quality depens on age by displaying the principle spermatological parameters, abnormal sperm types and percentages and to determine differences among individuals by examination of semen collected from 3 Haflinger stallions.

Throughout research, semen was collected from stallions by artificial vagina in breeding season (February-March) twice in a week. General average ejaculate volume with gel, sperm motility, sperm concentration, the percentage of abnormal sperm (%), the percentage of dead sperm (%) and sperm pH value were recorded as 21.50±5.10 ml, 68.16±4.23 %, 192.22±51.0 X106/ml, 46.43±10.11 %, 28.30±7.30 % and 7.50±0.38 in a total of 30 ejaculates from three Haflinger stallions respectively. Differences among stallions were found significant (P<0.001) for all of evaluated spermatological parameters.

Generel average values of abnormal sperm types including acrosome, head, middle piece (with protoplasmic droplet) and tail were recorded as 13.03±3.34 %, 3.23±2.00 %, 46.43±10.11 % and 3.50±0.74 %. Differences observed among individuals were determined significant for middle piece with protoplasmic droplet all of them within abnormal sperm types (P<0.001).

In conclusion, according to findings obtained from this study, it is observed that spermatological parameters exept for the percentages of abnormal sperm is within normal levels and age effects sperm quality in Haflinger stallions. Keywords : Haflinger, stallion, semen, spermatological parameters
