1 Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi, Ziraat Fakültesi, Tarımsal Biyoteknoloji Bölümü, Eskişehir - Levander Foal Syndrome (LFS) is autosomal recessive hereditary disorder causing serious economic losses in Arabian horse breeding throughout the world. In this study, the presence of LFS genotypes was investigated in 115 Turkish Arabian horse reared at nine different private farms in Eskisehir. Genomic DNA was obtained from blood and the MYO5A gene fragment which includes the mutation responsible for LFS were obtained by using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). PCR products were analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis after treatment with Faul restriction enzyme. Heterozygous genotypes were confirmed by sequence analysis. In the study, it was detected that 115 head Turkish Arabian horses examined did not have mutant alleles with respect to LFS genetic defect.
